Zhoushan Lujiashi Submarine Tunnel

Release time:

Abstract

Geological construction risks are prominent: The tunnel boring machine (TBM) launch section has a minimum burial depth of only 6.2 meters, making it an ultra-shallow buried tunnel. The geological strata consist primarily of highly plastic, low-bearing capacity silty clay, which easily leads to issues such as TBM nose-down and uplift of tunnel segments. Additionally, the tunnel needs to pass beneath drainage boards and the Lujiashi seawall, crossing two areas where piles have been extracted. In the seawall section, PVC drainage boards penetrate the tunnel by 3 to 4.1 meters, posing a significant risk of entanglement with the cutterhead blades. This project is a benchmark transportation project within the province: it is Zhejiang Province’s first highway tunnel constructed using a shield tunneling method beneath the seabed.

Geological construction risks are prominent: The minimum burial depth at the tunnel boring machine (TBM) launch section is only 6.2 meters, making it an ultra-shallow buried tunnel. The geological strata consist primarily of highly plastic, low-bearing capacity silty clay, which easily leads to issues such as TBM nose-down and uplift of tunnel segments. Additionally, the tunnel needs to pass beneath drainage boards and the Lujiashi seawall, crossing two pile-driving zones. In the seawall section, PVC drainage boards penetrate the tunnel by 3 to 4.1 meters, posing a high risk of entanglement with the cutterhead blades. This project is a benchmark transportation project within the province: it is Zhejiang Province’s first highway tunnel constructed using a shield tunneling method under the sea.
