Project Features:
The geological conditions pose significant construction challenges. In the tunnel section driven by shield machines, a full-face layer of gravel and pebbles stretches over 3,000 meters in length. The largest pebble exhibits a compressive strength as high as 73 megapascals—its hardness even surpasses that of certain types of rock—and it is extremely abrasive, placing exceptionally high demands on both the cutter tools of the shield machine and the tunneling technology itself. As a benchmark for the localization of equipment technology, the “Yuan’an” is China’s first large-diameter, atmospheric-pressure, slurry-balanced shield machine capable of replacing cutter heads under normal pressure. It is a key project under the nation’s “863” Major Science and Technology Special Program and boasts completely independent intellectual property rights. Its successful application marks that China’s manufacturing of underwater shield tunneling machinery and construction technologies for complex geological conditions have reached world-class advanced levels. Moreover, this project represents China Railway Construction Corporation’s first major public welfare undertaking integrating surveying and design, equipment manufacturing, construction, and operational management in a single integrated system.
